Not all English Resultative Constructions (ERCs) are equal: The acquisition of ERC by Spanish speakers

The English Resultative Construction (ERC) is a satellite-framed structure with no identical equivalent in Spanish. In series of studies, we analyzed and compared recognition (acceptability judgment task) comprehension (sentence three ERC subtypes the Depictive (EDC) (which has Spanish counterpart) by speaker learners as Foreign Language (EFL). Results showed that: 1) EDCs were better recognized than ERCs L2 learners, but highly proficient participants closer to native speakers’ performance, 2) Less EFLs comprehended those that further from (ERC Property Fake Reflexive). We interpret our findings terms an interlinguistic distance gradient, where constructions present or (ERC-Path) L1 are more readily acquired. This effect seems prominent at lower EFL proficiencies, fades proficiency increases, evolving towards native-like pattern.
